In the town of Sheptytsky, a 76-year-old man died in a fire. This occurred on the night of 17 March, when at 01:35 the rescuers received a report of smoke on Vynnychenka Street in a three-storey residential building. Upon arrival, it turned out that there were no visible flames, but the smell of burning was coming from a flat on the third floor, and the doors were hot. This was reported by the Lviv Emergency Services.
Neighbours suspected that the owner of the flat might be inside. Rescuers, opening the door with special equipment, discovered thick smoke and a source of ignition of household items over an area of 3 sq. m. During the inspection of the flat, a man was found on the floor and was immediately taken outside, but medics pronounced him dead.
The fire was localised at 01:58 and was completely extinguished by 02:04. Eight rescuers and two units of equipment were engaged in extinguishing the fire. Experts are currently investigating the causes of the tragedy.
