
On the morning of 10 March, firefighters were called to a residential property in the village of Zymna Voda, Lviv district. The report of a blaze came through to LVIVDSNS at 10:36. Professional firefighters from Lviv and volunteers from the local fire team in Zymna Voda were immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, crews found thick black smoke billowing from the roof of the building.
In the course of tackling the fire, it emerged that the owner of the property — a man born in 1977 — had attempted to fight the blaze himself and sustained burns to his hands and face. His wife (born 1978) and child (born 2009) had been overcome by smoke inhalation. All three casualties were taken to hospital by medical staff. Similar residential fires in the Lviv region have been reported on previous occasions.
The fire was contained at 10:59 and fully extinguished by 11:20. A total of 16 firefighters and 4 specialist vehicles from the State Emergency Service were deployed, along with 7 personnel and 1 vehicle from Lviv State University of Life Safety, as well as 8 volunteer firefighters.
The cause and circumstances of the fire are currently under investigation.
