The Klymentiy Sheptytsky Museum of Folk Architecture and Rural Life in Lviv together with the Kresy Museum in Lubaczów (Poland) invite you to the opening of the exhibition “The Archives of Boleslaw Fearon,
7 September, to the Lviv Skansen for the opening of the exhibition “Bolesław Farion’s Archive. Portraits of Old Roztochchia in the Negatives of the Lubachiv Photographer” and a concert by the band Vernyhora.
The exhibition and concert are part of the larger project “Border that Unites. Cross-border cultural transfers in times of war”. The project arose from the need to restore and maintain cross-border and neighbourhood cultural ties, as well as bilateral cooperation on the Polish-Ukrainian borderland.
The aim of the project is to return to pre-war cultural ties at the regional level and to intensify cooperation on the Polish-Ukrainian border, so the project will be shown to audiences in Poland and Ukraine.
Programme of the event:
- 17:00 – opening of the exhibition “Archive of Boleslav Farion. Portraits of old Roztochia in the negatives of the Lubaczów photographer”.
- The photographs presented at the exhibition are a small part of the collection of negatives from Bolesław Farion’s studio, rescued by the staff of the Kresy Museum in Lubaczów. The collection of photographs covers a period of cultural change in the culture of a village and a small town in southeastern Poland. On the one hand, it depicts a reality rooted in the nineteenth century and the first third of the twentieth century, when Poles and Ukrainians lived together in villages near Lubaczów. On the other hand, it embraces modernity, which is breaking old patterns. The confrontation, or rather the coexistence, of these two worlds is evident in the individual portraits of the residents taken in the photo studio in Liubachiv, as well as in the images of multi-generational families photographed during their daily household chores and agricultural work, as well as in festive moments.
Location: small exhibition hall of the museum “In the Shelter”. The exhibition in the skansen will be open from Wednesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 18:00.
19:00 – concert by the band “Vernyhora”
Wernyhora is a musical trio playing folk music with roots in the Carpathian borderland of Poland and Ukraine. The band will perform as follows: Daria Kosiek – vocals, Adrianna Marja Kafel – stringed instruments, Maciej Garna – wheeled lyre, handpan.
Location: the church in the village of Yazlivchyk
The exhibition and concert are part of the larger project “Border that Unites. Cross-border cultural transfers in times of war”. The project is implemented with the support of the Juliusz Meroszewski Centre for Dialogue, Lubaczów Poviat and Podkarpackie Voivodeship. “The Border that Unites…” is a project that arose out of the need to restore and maintain cross-border and neighbourhood cultural ties, as well as bilateral cooperation on the Polish-Ukrainian border. The full-scale war in Ukraine, which has been going on since 2022, has unfortunately significantly limited previous cross-border cooperation in the field of culture and cultural heritage. The aim of the project is to return to pre-war cultural ties at the regional level and to intensify cooperation on the Polish-Ukrainian border. We aim to bring our project to audiences in both Poland and Ukraine.
