A memorial event was held in the town of Sokal, Lviv region, to honor the millions of Ukrainians who perished during the Holodomors, particularly the devastating famine of 1932–1933.
A requiem service was conducted by priests Yaroslav Kashchuk, Mykhailo Nazar, and Volodymyr Zharsky in the town center.
The speakers recalled the horrific tragedy caused by the artificial famine orchestrated by the totalitarian Stalinist regime. Father Yaroslav Kashchuk and Deputy Mayor of Sokal, Volodymyr Ohinskyi, emphasized that the Holodomor was an act of genocide aimed at eradicating the Ukrainian people and their cultural identity.
They also stressed that remembering the Holodomor is not only a tribute to the dead but also a historical reminder of the cost of freedom and dignity—values that Ukrainian soldiers are defending today against Russian aggression.
Participants lit candles of remembrance, paying homage both to the victims and to those who survived the horrors of that dark era.
