In Drohobych, work has commenced on the Community Education Development Strategy for 2026–2033. This is important as the education system faces significant changes, such as the reform of the specialised senior school and a demographic decline. This was reported by the Drohobych City Council.
From 2027, the specialised senior school will operate in Ukraine, and the community must be ready to provide students with a choice of specialisations and quality education. The transition rate of students from 9th to 10th grade has significantly decreased, necessitating a focus on the quality of education.
Recently, there has been discussion about ceasing enrolment in the 5th grade at the Drohobych Scientific Lyceum named after Bohdan Lepky. The strategy defines the role of the lyceum as the main centre for specialised senior school, which will develop STEM and IT directions.
In the near future, a working group will be formed with representatives from the education department, institutions, parents, universities, businesses, and the public. Public discussions and hearings are planned, and by the end of May 2026, the Strategy is to be approved at a city council session.
The strategy is based on the principles of prioritising the interests of the child, data-driven decisions, accessibility, and quality of education. We invite all concerned to join the discussion and follow updates on the Drohobych City Council website.
