Today, April 3, Lviv celebrates the 33rd anniversary of raising the Ukrainian national flag over the city council. It was on this day, 33 years ago, that the blue-yellow flag first flew over the building of the City Hall.
First, in the Garrison Church of St. App. Peter and Paul UGCC held a joint prayer and consecration of the flag, and the participants marched to the Town Hall with the unfurled consecrated flag. At the same time, the participants of the symbolic 33-kilometer race dedicated to the anniversary finished on Rynok Square.
Therefore, to the sound of the National Anthem of Ukraine, deputies of the 1st democratic convocation, representatives of the deputy corps and servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine solemnly raised the national flag on the tower of the Town Hall.
“33 years ago, the first resolution of the elected city council decided to raise a blue-yellow flag over the city council. It was April 3. And every year, regardless of the circumstances, we gather and celebrate this date.
This time they organized a run. Serhii Krasko from Chervonograd ran with me, and Volodymyr Khanas, the champion of Ukraine in day running. The three of us covered the distance, uniting six district administrations. That is, we ran from administration to administration, and finished the race on Rynok Square. People greeted us warmly, treated us with hot tea.
We have plans to organize a Lviv-Donetsk-Luhansk run after the Victory to unite the whole country,” said Yaroslav Kozak, deputy of the Lviv City Council of the 1st democratic convocation.
Also today, the memory of deputies of the 1st democratic convocation, including Bohdan Kotyk, Vasyl Shpitser and Stefania Shabatura, will be commemorated at the Lychakiv cemetery.
