10 March is Ukraine’s National Anthem Day — a celebration tied to the first public performance of the song ‘Ukraine Has Not Yet Perished’, which took place on this date in 1865 in Przemyśl during commemorations in honour of Taras Shevchenko.
This year, marking the 161st anniversary of that occasion, the traditional ceremony was held in the heart of Lviv — on Market Square. In front of the City Hall building, those gathered unfurled a large Ukrainian flag and observed a minute’s silence in memory of all fallen defenders.
The national anthem was performed collectively to the accompaniment of the orchestra of the National Academy of Land Forces named after Hetman Petro Sahaidachny. Those in attendance included representatives of the authorities, military personnel, officer cadets, pupils from the Heroes of Kruty Lyceum, residents and guests of the city, as well as a deputy of the Lviv Regional Council and Deputy Mayor Lubomyr Zubach.
