Lviv: Street Cleaning After the Winter Season

The task for municipal workers in Lviv remains important even after the end of winter — to clear the streets of accumulated sand and dirt. This is crucial for the comfort and safety of citizens, as large amounts of sand mixture not only worsen the appearance of city streets but also pose a hazard to vehicle traffic. These works continue on the city’s streets, as reported by the Lviv City Council.

In the Shevchenkivskyi district, according to the head of the district administration, Iryna Dzhuryk, around 60% of the area has already been cleared of road sweepings. The work is carried out using various techniques. Initially, the sand and dirt are swept into piles along the streets, after which loaders load everything onto lorries for removal. This is followed by a vacuum cleaner, and then a watering-washing machine washes away the residue.

Serhiy Sokyrko, supervisor of the sanitary cleaning section, noted that the cleaning takes place from 6:00 to 16:00. In total, 265 janitors work alongside the equipment. So far, over 300 tonnes of sand mixture have been removed, which is approximately equal to 70 loaded lorries.

Andriy Moskaleno, first deputy mayor of Lviv, emphasised that 1135 m³ of sand and sweepings have already been removed. It will take a further two to three weeks to complete the work. This is being done simultaneously with the patch repair of potholes on the roads.
