In Lviv, universities are undergoing a transformation to become more accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. The city has implemented a co-financing programme covering 50% of the cost for installing lifts and hoists in higher education institutions. This has garnered significant interest among educational establishments.
Deputy Mayor Iryna Marunyak stated that the active involvement of the universities themselves is crucial. The city is working closely with designers to ensure that the adaptations consider the specific needs of each institution. Specifically, efforts are currently underway to enhance accessibility at Lviv Polytechnic and Ivan Franko University.
“We are contributing funds as these changes are vital for the education of students with disabilities. This will help make education more accessible and support the progressiveness of our nation,” notes Iryna Marunyak.
Additionally, the Ukrainian Catholic University, Danylo Halytsky Lviv National Medical University, and other institutions have also joined the co-financing programme aimed at upgrading entrance areas, foyers, and corridors.
