Due to a sudden deterioration in weather conditions, on January 9, 2026, the Regional Commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergency Situations in the Lviv region adopted several key decisions aimed at reducing risks for the population.
Main recommendations include:
- Remote work advised. Enterprises, institutions, and organizations are encouraged to switch to remote work. Exceptions include critical infrastructure facilities and those unable to operate remotely under martial law.
- In-person learning suspended. Kindergartens, schools, colleges, and universities in the region are advised to temporarily suspend in-person education. Institutions should either switch to distance learning or extend the winter break until at least January 19, 2026.
- Local decisions. Final decisions are to be made by local self-government bodies depending on the situation in each community.
- Weather monitoring. Meteorologists continue to monitor the situation closely and will provide prompt warnings in case of danger.
- Ongoing updates. The regional authorities will continue to provide timely updates on any changes to these measures.
These steps are temporary and will remain in effect only during the period of severe weather. Residents of Lviv region are urged to follow official announcements, stay safe, and remain at home if possible.
