Security Enhanced in Lviv Region: Fire Prevention and Modernisation

A meeting of the regional commission on Technogenic and Environmental Safety and Emergencies was held in the Lviv region under the chairmanship of the First Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Andriy Hodyk. Critically important issues concerning the safety of the region’s residents were discussed.

This year, 1259 fires have been recorded in the region, resulting in one fatality and three injuries. Fires have even spread to national park territories. To prevent this, round-the-clock monitoring is being intensified, mineralised strips are being created, and patrolling is being increased. Temporary restrictions on forest visits will be in place during periods of high fire danger.

Communities are required to designate official beaches, conduct inspections, and set up rescue posts. Regular patrols will be implemented throughout the summer season. If violations are found or rescuers are absent, the operation of such facilities will be prohibited.

Currently, the coverage of the region’s population by automated alert systems is about 71%. The modernisation of these systems is planned to be completed by the end of the year. Communities that are lagging behind have been instructed to expedite the development of projects and the installation of equipment.

Communities and managers of protective structures have been instructed to organise radon level measurements in shelters as part of the state plan to minimise radiation risks.

The decisions made are about the systematic preparation of the region for potential threats: from fires to water safety and timely alerting of the population. The safety of Lviv region’s residents depends on their implementation, so the key task is the real implementation of these measures on the ground, summarised Andriy Hodyk.
