The fifth monument of Soviet propaganda was decommunized in Sambir Oblast

The Sambir region plans to clear itself of Soviet junk by mid-July.

Today, the sixth field meeting of regional and district working groups on decommunization took place in the Sambir District Military Administration. The meeting was also attended by representatives of communities of the Sambir region, on whose territory there are still objects of monumental enemy propaganda.

The meeting was also attended by the head of the public organization “Decommunization of Ukraine” Vadym Pozdnyakov. He noted that the experience of Lviv Oblast in creating working groups and organizing work is very useful and should be adopted by all regions of Ukraine.

During the working meeting, problematic issues that arise during the decommunization of objects were discussed. Three more objects to be dismantled were also discovered during the working trip. Two of them are located on the territory of Sambor and one in the village of Nove Misto. After the meeting, a trip to one of the newly discovered objects took place.

During the trip, representatives of the regional and district working groups moved to the territory of the Biskovytskyi territorial community in the village of P’yanovichi and dismantled a stele with a bust of a Soviet soldier. The monument was located in the central part of the village, on both sides of the club and opposite the school.

“As of this day, 27 objects of monumental propaganda have been counted on the territory of the Sambir district, which are related to the glorification of the exploits and perpetuation of the memory of the occupying Soviet army. Today we dismantled the fifth object in this area. I want to emphasize that Sambir region plans to rid itself of Soviet waste by the middle of July 2023,” said the acting deputy. Director of the Department of Communications and Internal Policy of the Lviv Regional Government Yuriy Horun.

The head of the department also reminded that during this week, within the scope of decommunization in the Lviv region, the Shegyniv community in the Yavoriv region practically said goodbye to the Soviet past. Five out of six objects were dismantled there. In addition, on May 17, the monument in Chervonograd was dismantled. There, the hero of the USSR, Oleksii Lopatin, left the public space of the city. On May 18, another object was dismantled in the village of Zareche, Zhydachiv community, Stryi district.

In total, during this week, Lviv Oblast got rid of eight markers of the Soviet past.
