Important finds preserved, territory cleared
The restoration and reconstruction of the Roman Shukhevych Museum in Bilohirshcha has started. For the second week, Rembud employees have been working on the museum’s territory, carrying out preparatory work, preserving valuable items and parts for further use in the reconstruction project, removing garbage from the site, and starting to dismantle parquet and flooring in the surviving rooms. The specialists of Rembud are working at the site, and the necessary equipment has also been engaged.
According to Rembud, the workers have already levelled the area where preparatory and restoration work will be carried out, installed scaffolding, and removed garbage.
During the clearing of the territory, several valuable elements were found that will be used in the restoration or exposition of the museum, and they were transferred for storage – we are talking about the roof covering, elements of the steps, a table leg, pieces of a vending machine that was part of the museum’s exposition. Concrete flower beds were also preserved. Their use will be decided by architects in the future.
“Workers are currently dismantling the parquet and floor, disassembling the stairs. We are engaging the necessary equipment,” said Rembud.
At this stage of restoration and reconstruction, it is planned to carry out work related to the preparation of the territory for construction: laying of utilities, development of the construction site, clearing and layout of the site, construction of access roads and other work in accordance with the project. Rembud is carrying out preparatory work on the museum’s territory, and a public tender will be announced for the general contractor for restoration and construction.
“Given that every detail in the museum’s ashes may be of historical value, the work is carried out in a very jewellery-like manner, with every element that may be of value being selected.
As soon as the project is ready and the expertise is passed, the city will begin the procedure for selecting a general contractor to restore and rebuild the museum. At the same time, negotiations are underway to involve reputable persons in the Supervisory Board of the New Museum NGO,” comments Yevhen Boyko, the Executive Committee’s manager.
It became known what the Shukhevych Museum will look like after its restoration
On 16 December, at the Lviv City Council, the Lviv Intercity Bureau of Technical Inventory and the New Museum signed a memorandum of cooperation on the restoration of the museum of UPA General Roman Shukhevych in Bilohirsh.
The team led by Andriy Lesiuk, who won the architectural competition, has already completed more than 80% of the project to restore the Shukhevych Museum. The architects have added to the project, taking into account the wishes of the working group, which includes Shukhevych’s daughter Maria Tryliovska, historians, museum workers, and architects. In addition to the restoration of the museum building itself, they are also working on the improvement of the surrounding area.
When the project is fully completed, it will be submitted for examination. After the expert opinion, the city will be able to start the procedure for selecting a general contractor. To rebuild the Shukhevych Museum, the New Museum NGO will announce a general fundraiser.
As a reminder, on the night of 1 January, the museum of UPA General Roman Shukhevych was destroyed by Russian shelling. At the end of February, Lviv announced an all-Ukrainian open architectural competition for a project proposal to restore the museum. On the occasion of the anniversary of Roman Shukhevych’s birthday, the winning design for the restoration of the destroyed museum was presented.
