Contract Termination Accelerates Waste Plant in Lviv

The decision to terminate the contract with the previous contractor marked a turning point for the construction process of the waste processing plant in Lviv. During a briefing on 15 April, the head of LKP ‘Zelene Misto’, Oleksandr Yegorov, stated that this decision would facilitate the acceleration of works.

According to Yegorov, the city fulfilled all financial obligations to the contractor, paying over 30 million euros. Despite this, the plant, which was supposed to commence operations in October 2025, is still not built. Yegorov explained that the transfer of project documentation and equipment did not take place, and the amount of work completed remained insignificant.

The contract was terminated in accordance with FIDIC procedures and in agreement with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Similar issues with this contractor occurred in other Polish cities, which the clients deemed unacceptable. Yegorov emphasised that further steps include an audit, damage assessment, and announcement of a new tender to complete the plant’s construction.

It should be reminded that in April 2021, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development selected the tender winner for the construction of the waste processing complex in Lviv. Works commenced on Plastova Street in August 2021.
