Year of Operation of the ‘Nyzhankovychi – Malhowice’ Checkpoint

December 21 marks one year since the opening of the new international automotive checkpoint ‘Nyzhankovychi – Malhowice’ in the Lviv region.

A few years ago, the site of the modern customs post was just an open field. On September 3, 2021, delegates from Ukraine and Poland laid the cornerstone and a symbolic ‘time capsule,’ marking the start of construction.

Today in Nyzhankovychi, there is continuous movement! According to the head of the customs post, Oleh Shynkarenko, more than 50 thousand vehicles have entered Ukraine through Nyzhankovychi since its opening, and almost 64 thousand have exited to Poland. ‘Despite the considerable distance from Lviv, the working conditions here are exemplary. The team has a healthy atmosphere and wonderful people who clearly perform their tasks. We all really enjoy working here’, said Oleh Shynkarenko.

Now, before the holidays, we see more cars than usual – hundreds of citizens are traveling abroad or returning to Ukraine for the holidays. However, on regular days, there are almost no queues, and the processing of a vehicle on the Ukrainian side takes no more than 5 minutes. ‘Last year, on December 22, I crossed the border to Warsaw in over 12 hours, but today I managed in an hour. And I really like it here: it’s evident that there is order and discipline, it’s very clean, and the landscapes are wonderful’, shared Lviv resident Tetiana Nydza, who was heading to Poland in her own car.

We also met with a representative of the Polish side. Robert Kuzma, the head of the economic-technical section, explained the main feature of this checkpoint – the system of joint control with the adjacent side. ‘I am very pleased to work with Ukrainian customs officers and border guards. Our task is to maintain order and provide comfortable conditions for travelers and workers. I want to thank Ukrainians for their complete understanding and highly effective cooperation’, noted Mr. Robert.

Reminder: the checkpoint is intended for buses and passenger cars weighing up to 3.5 tons and is worth choosing for tourist routes. It is located in the Sambir district, at the zero kilometer of road T14-18 Nyzhankovychi – Sambir – Drohobych – Stryi. The journey from Lviv via the new route is almost 120 km and takes no more than 1.5-2 hours. As a bonus – only 7 km to the Polish city of Przemysl. Further on – an ideal route to Jaroslaw, Rzeszow, Krakow, Katowice. From there – to the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, and Germany.
