The Hrybovychi landfill, located near Lviv, has become a site where tulips are in bloom. This phase is part of the reclamation of an area that used to be a landfill. According to the LKP “Green City”, not only trees but also hundreds of various plants have been planted there, already forming a new green landscape.
Recently, two-toned white-pink tulips were planted on the landfill against the backdrop of the reclaimed territory’s hills. “We are gradually transforming the former landfill into a safe and green area,” noted the LKP “Green City”.
At the end of last year, the mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, and the Deputy Minister planted trees, including field maples and hornbeams. Additionally, more than 300 plants of various species were planted, and benches were installed for relaxation. The second phase of reclamation involves restoring the area and minimising the landfill’s impact on the environment. About 90% of the work has already been completed, including the installation of a drainage layer and a groundwater monitoring system.
To complete the phase, 20 hectares need to be covered with soil and vegetation planted. Depending on weather conditions, this phase is planned to be completed by the end of June. The next phase involves developing a concept for a recreational area, which will give the area a new purpose. The reclamation activities aim to eliminate the impact of waste and reduce environmental risks.
