“Thanks to the exhibition “Finding Roman Shukhevych”, anyone who wants to will be able to learn how Roman Shukhevych’s grandfather participated in the creation of “Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors”, how the Shukhevychs’ lodger Yevhen Konovalets influenced little Romko, and why the future general was complained about in Polish school, under what circumstances at the age of 19, Shukhevych committed the first assassination, why he ended up in prison and how she helped Roman Shukhevych become a businessman in the field of advertising, what kind of commander he was and when he was hunted by seven hundred Chekists, what happened to Shukhevych’s wife and children after his death, why no one knows the burial place of the chief commander of the UPA and why part of his case was burned in already independent Ukraine,” the organizers said.

After the presentation, the exhibition will be moved to Lviv – to the Memorial Museum of Victims of the Occupation Regimes “Prison on Lontskoho” (Stepana Bandera St., 1), where it will be exhibited for several months – until June 30, the birthday of UPA Commander-in-Chief Roman Shukhevich.

“Roman Shukhevych is an extraordinary figure who made a significant contribution to the struggle for freedom and independence of the Ukrainian people. His life path impresses with his courage, devotion to ideals and indomitable spirit. Honoring the memory of the UPA commander is not only a mention of the past, but also a reminder of the importance of devotion to one’s ideals, of the need to fight for truth and justice at all times. And today, our defenders continue this fight against the Russian enemy. We invite the residents of Lviv region to join the events in order to properly honor our heroes together. Let’s remember the past so that we have a future,” said Yuriy Horun, director of the Department of Communications and Internal Policy of the Lviv OVA.
