In Archangel Michael Park near the Stryiskyi bus station in Lviv, work has begun on creating the central pedestrian avenue, which is scheduled for completion by the end of the summer. This was reported by the Department of Natural Resources and Construction of the Lviv City Council.
The park is located between Stryiska, Vernadskoho and Miklosha Streets and is an important pedestrian route for residents of the surrounding neighbourhood. According to the City Council, the improvement works are being funded by investors.
Deputy Mayor for Urban Planning, Liubomyr Zubach, noted that the existing pedestrian paths had long needed widening and better surfacing, and that developers who had built nearby housing had come forward to help with the improvements. The new central avenue will be inclusive, with gentle longitudinal gradients to make it convenient for wheelchair users and people with pushchairs.
Back at the beginning of 2024, a drainage system was installed in the park and rain gardens were planted, as the area was prone to flooding and this problem had to be addressed as a priority. Now the first phase of more visible improvement works has begun – the construction of a wide central avenue, and provision has also been made for cycling infrastructure, lighting and new benches.
Liubomyr Zubach reported that no force majeure issues were identified during the on-site meeting, so the avenue works are currently on track to be completed by the end of the summer. He also reminded the public about the open-ended ‘Bench for the Home City’ initiative and pointed out that Archangel Michael Park is in need of new benches and litter bins.
The park upgrade project was drawn up by the LKP ‘Institute of Spatial Development’. The client for the works is DP ‘Bodnarivka’, which maintains the park, and the patron within the framework of socio-economic partnership is LLC ‘Sofit LV’.
