An inclusive space is being created in Lviv’s Znesennya Regional Landscape Park for the rehabilitation of wounded soldiers and comfortable leisure for people with limited mobility.
The project is being implemented in several stages, with 50% of the work completed so far. Inclusivity means “accessibility and adaptability to the needs of all groups of people, including people with disabilities”. Specialised exercise equipment, chess tables, basketball and tennis courts, and an observation deck with a view of Pidzamche are being installed at the site. According to Taras Kubay, Director of the Department of Natural Resources, “all the work is being done efficiently, and the facility will be commissioned by the end of the year.”
A special feature is that the playground is being built on the site of the previous sports area, expanding its functionality. New paths lead to the playground from Dovbush and Opryshkivska streets. The project also envisages the creation of a route between the Vysokyi Zamok and Znesinnia parks, with an inclusive path that bends around the Lion Mountain and runs past the rehabilitation area to the Rescued Animals’ Home.
The park already has a Health Route, a five-kilometre network of wellness trails that combines cardio exercise with psychological relief. According to Kubay, “nature and contact with animals speed up recovery.” That is why the new space will be a logical extension of this health ecosystem.
Inclusive solutions are also being implemented in other parts of Lviv – a similar space is being set up in Zamarstyniv Park. “We strive to make urban green spaces accessible to everyone, especially to wounded soldiers and people with reduced mobility,” emphasises Taras Kubay.
