Moving abandoned cars: the city is currently preparing a site for their storage
According to the Lviv City Council’s Department of Safety and Street Infrastructure, the city is preparing the necessary documents for the registration of a land plot for an abandoned car storage site. At the same time, district administrations will inspect their territories and compile a list of such vehicles.
Then they will look for their owners. If the owners do not agree, the car may be moved to the impound lot and even sold at auction.
“The land plot has already been identified, it is located on Konyushynna Street. The process of legalising it as a site for storing abandoned cars is underway. It will be at the disposal of the police,” said the Lviv City Council’s Department of Security and Street Infrastructure.
At the same time, district administrations will inspect their territories and compile a list of abandoned or neglected vehicles. The process of finding the owners and informing them to remove their cars on their own will continue. Thus, from the moment such a car is found, the owner will have 30 days to remove it. In particular, a sticker with the relevant warning will be placed on the car. If the car is not removed after a second inspection of the territory, it may be moved. The decision will be made by a specially created commission. Its members will include employees of the Department of Urban Mobility and Street Infrastructure, Lvivelectrotrans, and, if agreed, deputies, police and customs officials.
Such cars will be stored on impound lots for up to 6 months. If the owner does not come forward during this time, the police have the right to sell the car. If the owner does not come forward within three years, the proceeds will be transferred to the community, minus the amount spent on storage and sale of the car.
Last week, the plenary session approved the procedure for identifying and moving abandoned and neglected vehicles on the territory of the community. We are talking about abandoned cars that violate the landscaping and there are difficulties in identifying their owners. Therefore, the removal of such cars from the public space will increase the level of safety and comfort for residents.
By the way, between 16 and 22 October, the city’s hotline received 26 calls marked “remove abandoned car”.
