The Lviv City Council is ready to take over the abandoned swimming pool on Stusa Street, which is privately owned by Dynamo, to restore it for the physical development of community children, the development of a training base for swimmers and the rehabilitation of military personnel and war veterans as part of UNBROKEN.
The decision was made today at a session of the Lviv City Council.
The swimming pool, located at 4 V. Stusa Street, is owned by the Lviv Regional Organization of the Dynamo Sports Society of Ukraine. It is currently in an extremely dilapidated state, as it has not been used for over 20 years.
In order to preserve the city’s sports infrastructure, the Lviv City Council is ready to take the pool into municipal ownership and restore it at investor expense.
“We are negotiating with Dynamo. The city is interested in having a swimming pool at this sports facility, which is currently in a terrible state, to rehabilitate the military, develop children and train athletes. Rehabilitation by means of physical culture and sports, in particular swimming, is the best. This is important for the UNBROKEN center, for our military sports department.
There is a great facility in the city that Dynamo hasn’t done anything with for many years. We have an investor who is ready to repair this facility. However, the most important stage of the pool’s operation is its maintenance, so the city is ready to do this if the facility is in municipal ownership. We see this building as a social facility that should work for the benefit of the city’s residents,” said Anton Nikulin, head of the Lviv Sports and Youth Policy Department.
It should be noted that the city has approached the owners of the pool 11 times with this proposal, but has not yet been able to reach an agreement.
