Lviv City Council has decided to extend the ‘Residential Neighborhood Safety’ program until 2030, which provides for the installation of surveillance systems.
The program will continue to operate on a co-financing basis, but now the city budget will cover 60% of the cost of purchasing and installing cameras, while residents will pay only 40%. This decision was made at a plenary session of the council. ‘This program allows for increasing the safety levels in residential neighborhoods. It is important from a prevention standpoint because the presence of surveillance in residential areas reduces crime rates’, emphasized Oleg Zabarilo, head of the municipal mobility department.
It was noted that from 2022 to 2024, 221 surveillance cameras have been installed under the program. The total municipal surveillance network in the city now includes about 2,000 cameras.
