In Lviv, reconstruction works on Mazepa Street have resumed on the section where, on 15 August, an explosive object resembling an old munition was discovered during earthworks. The repairs were temporarily halted to allow it to be inspected, and after all necessary measures were carried out, construction was continued. This was reported by LKP «Lvivavtodor».
According to the company, employees of the contractor Onur immediately stopped work, cordoned off the site of the find and called the relevant emergency services. The director of LKP «Lvivavtodor», Mykola Vlasiuk, praised the contractor's responsible conduct and the promptness of the specialists who ensured safety at the site.
The reconstruction of the key thoroughfare Mazepa Street in Lviv's Shevchenkivskyi district began in May. The project provides for widening the carriageway, installing two dedicated lanes and island stops for public transport, creating convenient infrastructure for pedestrians and cyclists, parking spaces and green areas. The works are financed with funds from the European Investment Bank, and the upgraded street is expected to improve access to nearby medical facilities, in particular to the UNBROKEN centre.
For the duration of the reconstruction, the section of Mazepa Street from Mykolaychuka Street to Orlyka Street is completely closed to traffic. Public transport is operating with changes:
- buses No. 46 and No. 55a are diverting around the closed section via Orlyka Street and Vira, Nadiya, Lyubov Street in both directions, without entering St Panteleimon Hospital;
- buses No. 17 and No. 84 towards Shchurata Street run via Orlyka Street, and in the opposite direction via Vira, Nadiya, Lyubov Street and Orlyka Street, also without entering St Panteleimon Hospital;
- buses No. 12, No. 34 and No. 51 run along Mazepa Street – Orlyka Street – Mykolaychuka Street, returning to Mazepa Street in the area of the Pluhova stop;
- buses No. 7, No. 31, No. 41 and No. 56a run along Instrumentalna Street, Khvylovoho Street and Mykolaychuka Street, exiting onto Mazepa Street near the Pluhova stop, without entering the Orlyka stop on Mazepa Street.
For the period of the repairs, temporary public transport stops have been installed on Khvylovoho Street. Trolleybuses No. 33 are not operating for the duration of the works.
Private cars can bypass the closed section via Orlyka Street – Mykolaychuka Street or via Tychyny Street – Khvylovoho Street. Freight transport is being routed along Chornovola Avenue – Lypynskoho Street – B. Khmelnytskoho Street.
The city's infrastructure policy department recalls that since the start of the full-scale invasion, major road repairs in Lviv were temporarily suspended. However, due to heavy traffic, the surface on many streets began to deteriorate rapidly, so postponing works only increased future costs. Therefore, in 2025, repairs to Zaliznychna Street began using loan funds, and in 2026 the reconstruction of Mazepa Street was launched.
Certain sites, including Stryiska Street, Heroiv UPA Street, Horodotska Street and Vynnychenka Street, have been or are being repaired with deferred payment. Local businesses are also contributing to the renewal of the street network: for example, repairs to Konyushynna Street were carried out on a co-financing basis with business and with deferred payment, and works on Beskydska Street are also being carried out with the involvement of entrepreneurs.
