Lviv Doctors Perform Unique Operation to Save a Life

In Lviv, doctors performed a rare operation, removing the pancreas to save a 60-year-old patient who is encountering oncology for the second time. This unique operation took place at the Hospital of St. Panteleimon of the First Medical Association of Lviv. This was reported by the Lviv City Council.

Mrs Halyna from the Lviv region consulted doctors several years ago when she was diagnosed with stage 2 cancer in the distal part of the choledochus. After the removal of the gallbladder, part of the duodenum, and the head of the pancreas, she overcame cancer. However, last year her condition worsened, and doctors discovered a new tumour on the pancreas.

After three months of chemotherapy, the medics decided to perform a total pancreatectomy with splenectomy. The operation, which lasted six hours, was successful. Subsequently, the patient developed type 3 diabetes, so she was prescribed enzyme preparations and insulin therapy. Currently, Mrs Halyna is undergoing chemotherapy and feels well, having returned home.

As a reminder, the First Medical Association of Lviv saves lives in the most complex cases. This association includes three hospitals, the UNBROKEN rehabilitation centre, and polyclinics.
