Specialists from the Lviv Cancer Center successfully removed a 10-kilogram tumor from a patient.
Doctors at the Lviv Regional Oncology Treatment and Diagnostic Center performed an operation on a Lviv resident who was found to have a giant chest wall tumor. It had been rapidly growing for six months. Due to the size of the tumor and the patient’s blood clotting issues, he was initially stabilized and prepared for surgery by a multidisciplinary team.
The complex intervention was performed by the general director of the cancer center, Oleh Duda, head of the thoracic department, Ihor Hipp, and doctor Taras Rohovyi. During the surgery, the tumor was not only removed, but also a reconstruction of the chest was carried out using a metal implant. The weight of the tumor exceeded 10 kg — an unprecedented case for the institution.
“This is an example of complex surgery and a challenging postoperative path. At the same time, it serves as a reminder not to delay treatment: it is much simpler and safer at early stages,” noted Oleh Duda.
The patient is currently undergoing rehabilitation, with another plastic surgery ahead. Doctors once again emphasize the importance of timely medical attention.
