A decrease in tuberculosis incidence is observed in the Lviv region. In 2025, 939 cases were identified among adults, which is fewer compared to 1,131 cases the previous year. Among children, 7 cases were recorded against 11, and extrapulmonary forms were 68 against 78.
This was reported by the Deputy Director of the Health Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration, Ihor Perk, during a briefing on 24 March, World Tuberculosis Day. Experts emphasise that tuberculosis is transmitted through the air, and the greatest risk is for people who are in contact with patients or have weakened immune systems.
“The greatest risk of contracting the disease is for those who are in contact with tuberculosis patients, as well as people with chronic illnesses or harmful habits,” noted Yuliya Letts.
BCG vaccination remains the primary method of preventing severe forms in children. In 2025, 92% of infants in the Lviv region were vaccinated.
“Tuberculosis is curable. It is important to consult a doctor in a timely manner — this significantly increases the chances of successful treatment,” emphasised Yuliya Letts.
