As part of an international medical exchange program, one of France’s top experts in medical imaging, Victor Dumas, visited Lviv. He is a leading radiologist at the University Clinic of Poitiers and spent a week sharing his expertise with medical professionals at St. Panteleimon Hospital, part of Lviv’s First Medical Association.
Dumas’ visit marks a new chapter in the growing collaboration between French and Ukrainian healthcare institutions. Over two intensive days of training, he covered several advanced topics:
-
Fetal MRI and complications from central venous catheter use;
-
Dysraphism and corpus callosum abnormalities;
-
Postnatal spinal ultrasound;
-
Modern pediatric imaging techniques.
He paid special attention to pediatric radiology, including:
-
CT scans in pediatric trauma cases;
-
Imaging protocols for sudden infant death syndrome;
-
Diagnosing anorectal malformations;
-
Pediatric stroke assessment;
-
Review of pediatric cardiac CT case studies.
During the practical sessions in the interventional radiology department, Dumas demonstrated mechanical thrombectomy techniques, focusing on catheter selection, guidewires, and stent retrievers.
This exchange program is part of an ongoing partnership between the medical-university complex in Poitiers and Lviv’s First Medical Association, initiated by the French organization “Medical and Charitable Assistance France–Ukraine.” Ukrainian specialists in radiology, physical therapy, and occupational therapy have already completed training in Poitiers, and more are expected to travel there for further professional development.
Lviv’s medical authorities highlight that such collaborations with international experts help implement cutting-edge methods, ensuring local patients receive care that meets global standards.
