On 16 June Lviv will bid farewell to four defenders of Ukraine

On Tuesday, 16 June, Lviv will accompany on their final journey four servicemen – Vitalii Maksymets, Dmytro Kobanov, Oleh Rudenko and Petro Telenko, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities call on Lviv residents and visitors to join the farewell ceremony and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.

The funeral service for Vitalii Maksymets, Dmytro Kobanov and Oleh Rudenko will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of Sts Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30 a citywide farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square. Vitalii Maksymets and Dmytro Kobanov will be buried at Holosko Cemetery, in plot No. 34-V, and Oleh Rudenko at Yaniv Cemetery, in plot No. 16.

The funeral service for Petro Telenko will take place at 11:00 at the Church of the Most Sacred Heart of Christ at 2 Dykhtova Street. The soldier will be laid to rest at Riasne Cemetery on Lukasevycha Street.

Petro Telenko (03.02.1983 — 02.06.2026) was a Lviv resident. He studied at Lviv Secondary Comprehensive School I–III degrees No. 44 named after Taras Shevchenko and at Lyceum No. 38 of Lviv City Council, later receiving vocational education at Higher Vocational School No. 63 in Lviv. He worked as a security guard at LLC “Ashan Ukraina Hypermarket” and as a blacksmith at private enterprises. According to his family, he was hardworking, kind and sensitive, valued his family above all, loved animals and was always ready to help. Blacksmithing held a special place in his life. In 2026 he took up arms to defend the Motherland, defending Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia sector as part of the 210th Separate Special Battalion “Berlingo” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Petro Telenko is survived by his wife, mother, daughter, sister, nephews and extended family.

Vitalii Maksymets (21.10.1985 — 12.06.2026) was born in the town of Sheptytskyi in Lviv region. He studied at Secondary Comprehensive School No. 9 in Lviv, later qualifying at a vocational school. His relatives remember him as a kind, sincere and devoted person who always supported his loved ones and never refused to help. From childhood he was passionate about football, played for football clubs in Lviv region, loved children, nature and gardening, and dreamed of running his own business in the agricultural sector. He was a participant in the Anti-Terrorist Operation. With the start of the full-scale invasion he defended Ukraine in the Zaporizhzhia, Northern Slobozhanskyi and Kherson sectors as part of the “Tymur Special Unit” of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. Vitalii Maksymets is survived by his son, daughter, wife, sister, aunt, nephews, family, friends and comrades-in-arms.

Oleh Rudenko (20.06.1971 — 05.06.2026) was a Lviv resident. He studied at Lyceum No. 52 of Lviv City Council and received vocational education at Vocational School No. 53 in Lviv. He completed compulsory military service. According to his family, he was hardworking, responsible and persistent, had a technical mindset, was passionate about working with metal, making knives and locks, and loved creating things with his own hands. He regarded the house he built with his own hands as one of his greatest achievements. In his free time he cycled, valued an active lifestyle and spending time with his family. In 2025 he took up arms to defend Ukraine, fighting in the Donetsk and Dnipropetrovsk sectors as part of the 762nd Separate Security Brigade of the State Special Transport Service of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. Oleh Rudenko is survived by his daughter, sister, nephews and four grandchildren.

Dmytro Kobanov (10.09.1984 — 05.06.2026) was born in the village of Starychi in Lviv region. He attended Preschool Education Institution No. 26 of Lviv City Council and Secondary Comprehensive School No. 27 in Lviv named after Hero of the Heavenly Hundred Yurii Verbytskyi. He continued his education at the Hetman Petro Sahaidachnyi National Army Academy, studied at the National University “Lviv Polytechnic” specialising in “Motor Transport”, and also at the Faculty of Law of Lviv Commercial Academy (now Lviv University of Trade and Economics). He worked as a driver-forwarder at JSC “Ukrposhta”, later at the Ukrainian-British joint venture “Galka LTD”. His relatives remember him as a calm and level-headed person who was passionate about mechanics, fishing and spending time in nature. In 2025 he took up arms to defend the Motherland, defending Ukraine in the Mykolaiv and Dnipropetrovsk sectors as part of the 51st Battalion of Radiological, Chemical and Biological Protection of the Support Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Dmytro Kobanov is survived by his parents, two sons, wife, sister and extended family.
