On 19 August, Lviv will bid farewell to soldiers Dmytro Maherovskyi, Mykhailo Stechyshyn and Orest Ocherklevych

On Wednesday, 19 August, a city farewell ceremony will be held in Lviv for the fallen servicemen Dmytro Maherovskyi, Mykhailo Stechyshyn and Orest Ocherklevych, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city authorities call on residents to join the farewell and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.

The funeral service for Dmytro Maherovskyi and Mykhailo Stechyshyn will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. The soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, in the Field of Honourable Burials No. 87 on Pasichna Street.

The funeral service for Orest Ocherklevych will also take place at 11:00 at the Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul in the village of Zymna Voda. After the service, the defender will be laid to rest at the Zymna Voda Cemetery.

Mykhailo Stechyshyn (27.07.1988 — 02.04.2024) was born in the village of Zubra in Lviv region. He studied at the Zubra Lyceum of the Solonka Village Council and later obtained a qualification at the state vocational education institution “Interregional Higher Vocational School of Motor Transport and Construction”. He completed compulsory military service.

After his service, he worked as a cash-in-transit guard at the Security Police Department in Lviv region, and later as a security guard at the state institution “Lviv Correctional Colony (No. 48)” and at the state institution “Camp for the Detention of Prisoners of War ‘Zakhid 4′”. His family recall that Mykhailo was sincere, kind and fair, a caring father and a reliable friend, who loved to work and was interested in agriculture.

With the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion, he took up arms to defend Ukraine. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Donetsk sector as part of the 225th Separate Assault Battalion of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded the “War Veteran” breast badge. Mykhailo Stechyshyn is survived by his mother, wife, daughter, two sons, sister and her family, brother and other relatives.

Dmytro Maherovskyi (11.11.1992 — 16.02.2025) was a native of the town of Busk in Lviv region. He studied at Busk General Secondary Education Support Institution I–III Degrees No. 1 of the Busk City Council. From 2011, he served in the 1st Halychyna-Volyn Radio Engineering Brigade of the Air Force of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

According to his family, Dmytro was calm, non-confrontational, responsible and courageous, always ready to help those in need. He enjoyed computer games, spending time in nature, and was interested in automotive mechanics.

After the start of the full-scale war, he continued his service within the Air Command “West”, and from 2025 he defended Ukraine in the Donetsk sector as part of the 37th Separate Marine Brigade of the Naval Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. Dmytro Maherovskyi is survived by his parents, sister and extended family.

Orest Ocherklevych (10.07.1975 — 20.03.2026) was a Lviv resident. He studied at Secondary School No. 74 in Lviv and later obtained a vocational education at Lviv Vocational School. He completed compulsory military service, after which he worked in the construction sector for private companies.

His family say that Orest was kind, honest, reliable and even-tempered, a responsible family man who loved his wife and daughter dearly. He was interested in radio electronics, was handy with tools and, according to his loved ones, was a true “jack of all trades”. He valued his family, loved life and had many plans for the future.

With the start of the full-scale invasion, he joined the ranks of Ukraine’s defenders. He defended the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the state in the Northern Slobozhanskyi, Luhansk, Zaporizhzhia, Southern Slobozhanskyi and Donetsk sectors as part of the 125th Separate Heavy Mechanised Brigade of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He was awarded the “Cross of the Territorial Defence Forces”, the “Defender of Ukraine” medal and the “War Veteran” breast badge. Orest Ocherklevych is survived by his wife, daughter, parents, sister, extended family and comrades-in-arms.
