Artillerymen of the 45th Brigade pay tribute to Myron Tarnavsky at Yaniv Cemetery in Lviv

Servicemen of the 45th Separate Artillery Brigade visited Yaniv Cemetery in Lviv and laid flowers on the grave of General Myron Tarnavsky. This was reported by the 45th Separate Artillery Brigade.

General Myron Tarnavsky is buried in Lviv, in the burial field of the soldiers of the Ukrainian Galician Army. His grave is located next to those of other Sich Riflemen.

To pay their respects, the artillerymen chose flowers of a purple colour, because, in their words, this colour symbolises the decoration for wounds and the blood that has been shed.

The brigade notes that commemorating Myron Tarnavsky is an established tradition. Depending on circumstances, it is organised either on 29 June, the anniversary of the general’s death, or at the feast of the Trinity, which people commonly call Green Holidays.

It is worth recalling that in the 1920s and 1930s in Lviv, a procession with flowers took place on Green Holidays: a ceremonial march set off from St George’s Cathedral to Yaniv Cemetery, invariably led by Myron Tarnavsky as a symbol of the struggle for freedom and of comradeship in arms.
