On Friday, February 14, Lviv will pay tribute to Ukrainian defenders Yuriy Stets and Mykhailo Losyk, who gave their lives protecting the country from Russian invaders. The city council urges residents and visitors to join the farewell ceremony and refrain from entertainment activities on this day.
At 9:30 a.m., a prayer and farewell for Yuriy Stets will take place at the Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Solomiya Krushelnytska, located at 28 Svobody Avenue.
The funeral ceremony for both soldiers will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul. Subsequently, at approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will be held at Rynok Square.
Both defenders will be laid to rest at the Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographical Details of the Fallen
Yuriy Stets (June 18, 1973 – February 5, 2025)
Yuriy Stets was born in Lviv. He studied at the Vasyl Stus Lyceum of International Relations under the Lviv City Council and later graduated from the former Lviv Technical College of Industrial Automation. He served in the signal troops in Zhytomyr during his military service.
For many years, Yuriy worked at the “Lotos-Lviv” LLC, and for the past 15 years, he served at the Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Solomiya Krushelnytska. In his free time, he enjoyed playing football.
After the full-scale Russian invasion began, he joined the 5th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces and carried out combat missions in the Donetsk region.
Yuriy is survived by his sister and nephews.
Mykhailo Losyk (March 12, 1975 – February 5, 2025)
Mykhailo Losyk was born in the village of Mykhaylevychi, Lviv region. In 1992, he graduated from Mykhaylevychi Gymnasium and later obtained vocational training in Pohirtsi.
Between 1994 and 1996, he served in the tank troops, and from 1996 to 2011, he was part of the State Guard Service under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine. For over a decade, he worked as the head of security at the Lviv branch of “TASKOMBANK.”
According to his family, Mykhailo was a devoted family man, a kind friend, and a caring person. He loved nature and enjoyed working on the land.
After the Russian invasion began, he joined the 5th Separate Heavy Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian Ground Forces to defend his homeland.
Mykhailo is survived by his mother, wife, daughter, and grandchildren.
