
On 25 May in Lviv, a farewell ceremony will be held for serviceman Oleksandr Stefanovych, who gave his life defending Ukraine from the Russian occupiers. The city council is calling on Lviv residents and visitors to join the ceremony and to refrain at this time from entertainment events and celebrations.
The funeral service will begin at 11:00 at the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30, a citywide farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square. The defender will be laid to rest at Yaniv Cemetery.
Oleksandr Stefanovych (01.09.1971 — 15.05.2026) was a native of Lviv. He studied at a secondary comprehensive school in Lviv and later qualified as a fitter-toolmaker at the Separated Structural Subdivision “Technical Vocational College of the National University “Lviv Polytechnic””. He completed compulsory military service.
In civilian life, he worked as a private entrepreneur in the trade sector. Later he held the position of amusement ride operator in Stryiskyi Park, where he worked with children.
According to his relatives, Oleksandr was kind, sincere, caring, a reliable friend, always ready to help and support others. He was a devoted husband, a caring father and grandfather, and loved spending time with his granddaughter. From a young age he was passionate about Eastern martial arts and numismatics, had a good sense of humour, was curious and determined, could tell a good story, loved rock music and valued personal independence and freedom.
In 2025, Oleksandr took up arms to defend his Homeland from the invasion of the Russian occupiers. He defended the territorial integrity of Ukraine in the Dnipropetrovsk sector as part of the 160th Separate Mechanised Brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Stefanovych is survived by his wife, mother, daughter, granddaughter, aunt and extended family.
