Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Viktor Pavliuk and Yuriy Bereziuk

On Saturday, 7 September, the Lviv community will say goodbye to two defenders who died in battle with the occupiers. Lviv residents and guests of the city are encouraged to join the city’s farewell ceremony for Viktor Pavliuk and Yuriy Bereziuk. The mayor’s office asks to refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during the farewell ceremony.

The farewell and funeral ceremony will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul in Lviv, and at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.

The defenders will then be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Viktor Pavliuk (06.03.1973 – 24.08.2024) was born in Sokal, Lviv region.

Viktor Pavliuk (06.03.1973 – 24.08.2024) was born in the city of Sokal, Lviv region.

He studied at Sokal secondary school №2. He was involved in the Sokal Children’s and Youth Sports School. Subsequently, he continued his studies at the State Vocational Educational Institution “Chervonohrad Professional Mining and Construction Lyceum”, graduating with honours. He received his higher education at Lutsk Industrial Institute (now Lutsk National Technical University).

He worked in engineering and construction in Lviv.

Since the beginning of the Anti-Terrorist Operation, he has been helping orphans and servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. During the full-scale Russian invasion, he defended the state as a member of the 95th separate Polissya airborne assault brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He performed combat missions in Donetsk and Kursk regions.

Viktor Pavliuk is survived by his son, civilian wife and nephew.

Yurii Bereziuk (12.08.1992 – 03.09.2024) was a resident of Lviv.

He studied at secondary school No. 86. Subsequently, he continued his studies at the Specialist College of Information Technology at Lviv Polytechnic National University. He graduated from the same university.

He worked as a regional manager of the western region at Elite Decor Private Joint Stock Company.

He served in the 24th Separate Mechanised Brigade named after King Danylo of the Operational Command “West” of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to his family, “Yurii was a very good father, he loved fishing and riding a motorbike.”

In the first days of the full-scale Russian invasion, he voluntarily joined the Western Territorial Directorate of the Military Law Enforcement Service of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the state.

Yurii Bereziuk is survived by his wife, son, daughter, parents, brother, two grandmothers, mother-in-law, father-in-law, brother-in-law and godfather with his family.
