Tomorrow, Lviv will say goodbye to defenders Andrian Kovalskyi and Yuriy Zhigail

On Friday, November 17, Lviv will say goodbye to servicemen Andrian Kovalskyi and Yuriy Zhigail, who died at the hands of the Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine. The City Hall calls on Lviv residents and guests to join the city’s farewell ceremony and to refrain from entertainment events and celebrations during this time.

At 9:30 a.m. in the Church of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist in the city of Vinnyki (61 Halytska St.), a farewell ceremony will be held for soldier Andrian Kowalski.

The funeral rites of defenders Andrian Kovalskyi and Yuriy Zhigail will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Sts. App. Peter and Paul, at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will take place on Rynok Square.

Military servicemen will be buried at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Biographical references of defenders

 

Andrian Kovalskyi (19.09.1981-02.11.2023) Born in the city of Vinnyki.

He studied at Secondary Secondary School of Grades I-III No. 47 of Lviv. Subsequently, he entered the Separate Structural Unit “Technical and Economic Vocational College of the National University “Lviv Polytechnic”.

After completing his studies, he completed military service. In peacetime, he worked in the field of gas supply. He was an exceptionally sensitive, sincere, responsible person and a true patriot of his Motherland.

From the first days of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he volunteered to join the ranks of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. After completing the training, he joined the 120th separate reconnaissance battalion of the Ground Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as part of which he performed combat missions in the Chernihiv region.

Subsequently, Andrian Kovalskyi was transferred to the 92nd separate assault brigade named after the commander of the army, Ivan Sirk, of the operational command “East” of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He took part in the liberation of Kharkiv Oblast, as well as in heavy battles for Luhansk Oblast, where he received his first wound. Subsequently, he defended the state on the territory of the Donetsk region, where he was wounded a second time.

In 2023, he was sent to study at the Military Academy (Odesa), where he received the rank of junior lieutenant. After completing the training, he returned to the ranks of the 92nd brigade and performed tasks in Donetsk region. Performed the duties of the commander of the assault battalion.

Andrian Kovalsky is survived by his parents, wife, two children, brother and sister.

 

Yuriy Zhigailo (29.01.1985-08.11.2023) A native of the village of Peredmirka, Ternopil region.

He studied at the Predmir branch of the Borsukiv institution of general secondary education of the I-III degrees of the Ternopil region. In 2004, he graduated from the Higher Vocational School No. 57 of Lviv (today – the State Vocational and Technical Educational Institution “Interregional Higher Vocational School of Motor Transport and Construction”) majoring in “Maintenance and repair of cars and engines”.

In 2006, together with his wife, he moved to Lviv and started working at the Limited Liability Company “Lviv Armored Plant”. Since 2017, he has held the position of electromechanic at the Balansyr Private Enterprise. He adored devoting his free time to his daughters, was fond of history and cinematography, in particular, documentaries. He was always cheerful and smiling, he did not refuse help to anyone.

He was a participant in the Revolution of Dignity. With the beginning of a full-scale invasion, the Russian Federation stood up to protect the Motherland from the invaders. Performed combat tasks in the ranks of the 21st separate mechanized brigade of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

Yuriy Zhigail is survived by his mother, wife and two daughters.
