Tomorrow Lviv will say goodbye to defender Roman Hutsal

Tomorrow, on 4 September, Lviv residents and visitors are urged to pay tribute to the soldier Roman Hutsal, who laid down his life defending Ukraine from the occupiers, and to join the city’s farewell ceremony.

The mayor’s office asks to refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during the farewell ceremony.

Roman Hutsal’s farewell and funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul in Lviv, and at 11:30 a city farewell ceremony will be held on Rynok Square.

The soldier will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.

Roman Hutsal (16.04.1994 – 31.08.2024) was a resident of Lviv.

He graduated from Ivan Franko Lyceum #51 of the Lviv City Council. Afterwards, he continued his studies at the Lviv Cooperative College of Economics and Law, specialising in accounting. He graduated from the Faculty of History and the Faculty of Culture and Arts of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv.

He was an entrepreneur in the field of trade. According to his family, “Roman was extremely patriotic, kind, decent, sincere, friendly, sociable and cheerful, he respected his family and all his relatives, inspired his comrades-in-arms, loved his parents and loved his wife.”

During the full-scale Russian invasion, he joined the ranks of the 80th separate Galician Air Assault Brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend the state. He was trained by the Ukrainian military in Spain. He performed combat missions in Zaporizhzhia and Donetsk regions.

Roman Hutsal is survived by his wife, father, mother, two grandparents.
