On Wednesday, 11 September, Lviv will say goodbye to soldiers Ihor Sagan, Oleksandr Andriyenko and Roman Sydor, who were killed by Russian occupiers while defending Ukraine.
The mayor’s office calls on people to join the city’s funeral ceremony and to refrain from holding entertainment events and celebrations during this time.
The funeral service for the defenders will begin at 11:00 a.m. in the Garrison Church of Ss. Peter and Paul, followed by a citywide farewell ceremony on Rynok Square.
The soldiers will be buried at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographical information about the defenders
Ihor Sahan (03.08.1981-27.01.2023) was a resident of Lviv.
He studied at the secondary school No. 99. After graduation, he got a job as a shoe upper procurer in Lviv.
He worked in his speciality at a local private enterprise. He was also engaged in private entrepreneurship. According to his clients, he had golden hands.
He spent his free time fishing and playing football, and loved the outdoors. His family says he was extremely kind and fair, a wonderful father and husband, and had many friends and colleagues who respected him for his exceptional professionalism.
With the beginning of the full-scale Russian invasion, he joined the 46th separate airmobile brigade of the Air Assault Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Ihor Sahan is survived by his parents, wife, daughter and sister.
Roman Sydor (26.11.1974-04.09.2024) was a resident of Lviv.
He studied at the Sykhivskyi Lyceum of the Lviv City Council. He graduated from Lviv Polytechnic National University with a degree in Industrial and Civil Engineering.
After graduation, he worked in his field of study. In his spare time, he was actively involved in football, fishing and chess.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he joined the 66th separate mechanised brigade named after Prince Mstyslav the Brave of the Land Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to defend Ukraine from the invaders. For his personal courage, he was awarded the Knight’s Cross medal by the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine. He was devoted to his country and his comrades-in-arms, with whom he performed combat missions.
Roman Sydor is survived by his mother, sister and her family, godmother, cousins and brothers.
Oleksandr Andrienko (21.01.1981-01.09.2024) was born in Lviv. In 1988, the Andrienko family moved to Latvia for permanent residence.
After finishing the 9th grade, Oleksandr and his parents returned to Lviv. Here he received a vocational education.
After graduation, he worked at the Lviv Lighthouse Additional Liability Company. In 2017, he completed an iconography course at the Ukrainian Catholic University. According to his family, he was an artist from God.
With the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation, he defended the state from the occupiers. He performed combat missions to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Motherland in the ranks of the 103rd separate territorial defence brigade of the regional directorate “West” of the Territorial Defence Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Oleksandr Andrienko is survived by his mother, son, brother, cousins, nephews and aunts.
