Tomorrow, Lviv Will Bid Farewell to Three Ukrainian Defenders

On Thursday, December 12, Lviv will honor the memory of Roman Lesiv, Dmytro Mykhalko, and Yuriy Ivasyshyn, who gave their lives defending Ukraine from Russian aggression. The Lviv City Council calls on residents and visitors to participate in the farewell ceremonies and refrain from organizing or attending entertainment events on this solemn day.

Ceremony Schedule
  • Roman Lesiv and Dmytro Mykhalko
    The funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the Garrison Church of Saints Peter and Paul. At approximately 11:30 a.m., a citywide farewell ceremony will take place at Rynok Square. The soldiers will be laid to rest at the Lychakiv Cemetery.
  • Yuriy Ivasyshyn
    The funeral service will commence at 2:00 p.m. in the same church. The farewell ceremony is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. at Rynok Square. Burial will follow at Lychakiv Cemetery.
Biographies of the Heroes
Roman Lesiv (December 31, 1973 – November 15, 2024)

Born in Lviv, Roman attended School No. 95 and later studied at a technical college specializing in radio electronics. He completed his military service in Kharkiv.

In civilian life, he worked at “Ektyavtoprom” and “Lvivkholod.” He enjoyed history and crafting.

With the outbreak of full-scale war, Roman joined the 24th Separate Mechanized Brigade named after King Danylo. He served on the Donetsk front.

Roman is survived by his mother and a sister with her family.


Dmytro Mykhalko (January 19, 1975 – December 6, 2024)

Born in Pavlohrad, Dnipropetrovsk region, Dmytro graduated from a local school and later attended an art college. He pursued higher education in decorative arts at Lviv Academy of Arts.

For over 20 years, he worked at “Decor-Service.” He was talented in painting and creating wedding dresses.

At the onset of war, Dmytro joined military unit A4219 and fought on the Donetsk front.

Dmytro is survived by his father, wife, and two daughters.


Yuriy Ivasyshyn (January 21, 1989 – July 12, 2024)

Born in Zhydachiv, Lviv region, Yuriy showed a keen interest in history and sciences during school. He earned a degree from Lviv Polytechnic National University.

While in Prague, he actively participated in “Ukrainian Freedom” and supported Ukraine’s causes. He was injured during the Revolution of Dignity and served in the “Carpathian Sich” battalion during the Anti-Terrorist Operation. He authored the book “Death of the Tsar.”

After the invasion, Yuriy returned to Ukraine, joining territorial defense, the International Legion, the Marine Corps, and the GUR special unit “Artan.” Despite losing his eyesight in 2023, he returned to the battlefield.

Yuriy is survived by his parents, sister, and daughter.
