Online outlet Mashable has published hints and the full set of answers for the sports-themed version of The New York Times daily word game — Connections: Sports Edition — for puzzle No. 674, available on 29 July 2026.
Connections: Sports Edition was created in collaboration with The Athletic and, like the original Connections, presents players with 16 words that must be grouped into four sets based on a shared characteristic. Each set belongs to a separate category, and players are allowed only four mistakes. The difficulty levels are colour-coded: yellow, green, blue and purple.
In puzzle No. 674, the categories came with the following general hints: yellow — “type of contest”, green — “poker”, blue — “Canadian sport”, purple — “sounds like music”. The exact category names and their corresponding words were later revealed.
The yellow category, “Contest”, grouped together COMPETITION, FIXTURE, GAME, MATCH. The green category — “Stages in a Texas Hold’Em Hand” — included FLOP, RIVER, SHOWDOWN, TURN. The blue category, “Pro Teams in Montreal”, consisted of ALOUETTES, CANADIENS, CF MONTREAL, VICTOIRE. The purple group, “Start with a Music Genre”, contained the entries COUNTRY CLUB, POPOVICH, RAPIDS, ROCKY.
The article’s authors reminded readers that, like Wordle, Connections is updated daily at midnight, and players can share their results on social media. Mashable also offers hints for other New York Times games, including Wordle and Strands, and publishes additional puzzles in its gaming section.
