The national team of Ukraine included 10 athletes from Lviv region at the XXXIII Olympic Games in Paris.

Today, on 20 August, Ivan Sobko, deputy to the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration, congratulated them and presented them with gratitude from the head of the Lviv Regional State Administration.

“On behalf of the regional state administration and myself, I would like to express my deep gratitude and sincere congratulations to each and every one of you.

Your participation in the Olympic Games is already a victory, which emphasises that Ukraine is unbreakable, and our athletes continue to confidently move to new heights.

Even in the most difficult times, when our country is going through trials, when our military are defending us at the front, you continue to demonstrate an unbreakable spirit, strength and will to win.

We know that the road to the podium is not easy, but every victory, every step you take on the way to success is important. And although this path may be longer for some, we are confident that with such ambition and perseverance, you will certainly achieve your desired result.

Today we are honoured to present you with awards for your dedication to sport and Ukraine. You are our pride, our hope and an example for future generations.

Ukraine is a nation of indomitable people who always believe in themselves and move forward despite any difficulties.

Our athletes deserve support, and we, as the authorities, are responsible for the development of sports. Over the past three years, the regional budget has allocated about UAH 200 million to support sports. We continue to work to ensure that every district and every community receives resources to develop sports opportunities. Every hryvnia invested in sports is an investment in our future, in the health of the nation and the development of our communities.

I am very grateful to our partners who are always by our side and support us on this path.

I wish each and every one of you success, both in sport and in your personal lives. Let your personal victories inspire and motivate you, and let our common victory in the war be a symbol of the unity and strength of our nation,” Ivan Sobko addressed the athletes.

Wrestler Oksana Livach noted that this Olympics was special and evoked extraordinary emotions.

“This time we competed during a full-scale war that changed the lives of each of us. Therefore, we felt a huge responsibility to win the highest award, to show the world that Ukraine is unbreakable, strong and proud.

We were as united as possible along the way. Each of us felt the support of our teammates. But a powerful source of strength was the support we felt from every Ukrainian who cheered for us, sent words of encouragement and believed in our success.

We will do our best to continue to proudly carry our flag and continue to glorify our country in the sports arena,” added Oksana Livach.

Roman Khimyak, Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Lviv Regional State Administration, also cheered on the Olympics and thanked the athletes and their coaches for their incredible achievements.

“Every Olympics is not only a fight for awards, but also an extraordinary opportunity to show the world what Ukraine is capable of.

When I was in the stands in Paris, I was overwhelmed with emotions. It was a great honour for me to see people coming up to us on the streets and taking pictures with us because we were wearing T-shirts with the Ukrainian flag. This shows that people know about us and support us. The way people cheered for our athletes created an unforgettable atmosphere.

I am grateful to each of you who is making efforts to make our country known in the world. We will continue to do our best to support the development of sports in the region and move towards new victories together,” said Roman Khimyak.
