The Department of Sports together with the Department of Education of Lviv are implementing school sports leagues developed in accordance with world experience.
The goal of such leagues is to increase the number of schoolchildren who play sports on a regular basis and lead a healthy lifestyle.
“With the project of school leagues, we want to combine two important factors: the health of children, which has always been in our priorities, and the return of high-quality sports holidays to our educational institutions. We want to involve all schools in this. These sports competitions will be held at a very high-quality, professional level, because we want Lviv students to have a passion for sports, get to know other schoolchildren, communicate with each other,” emphasized Andriy Zakaliuk, head of the Lviv Education Department.
Lviv school sports leagues of various sports will be held annually among Lviv schoolchildren from October 15 to May 15. The first tournaments are planned to be held in January 2023. Already this school year, they plan to hold school leagues in three sports: futsal, basketball and volleyball.
“School sports leagues will become an additional element of selection, because it is here that sports federations will be able to see among all schoolchildren the talents that will represent Ukraine at the highest world level competitions in the future. That is why the federations themselves are interested in such a project, and referees will be involved during the competition.
In general, sports leagues will be held at a high level: digitization of the project, special logos for school teams, transitional cups and much more,” said Anton Nikulin, head of the city’s sports department.
To make the competition more spectacular and interesting, logos and original cups with an individual design will be created for each league. These trophies will become transitional. The winner of the current season will own them until the final of the next one.
Also, each team will receive its own emblem, which will identify the team among all other participants. Children will choose the logo of their educational institution together with their mentors – teachers who will represent their team at the competition.
A digital process will be implemented in the system of school leagues. The preparation and implementation will be covered on the developed information platform “Lviv Sports School Leagues”. This will greatly simplify and facilitate organizational moments.
