According to information from the LMR transport department, 82 Lviv public transport drivers are currently in the ranks of the Armed Forces. In particular, 26 drivers of communal ATP-1, 33 drivers of private motor transport companies and 23 – LKP “Lvivelectrotrans” are protecting Ukraine from the Russian occupier. Unfortunately, one driver of Lviv Electrotrans was killed, and another is in captivity.
“Now our independence is protected by 82 of our drivers. Many of them went to war as volunteers. Unfortunately, one driver gave the most valuable thing for our state – his life. Another is in captivity.
In general, we have about 700 public transport drivers in Lviv. And, unfortunately, we have a case where the bus driver misbehaved with the widow of a soldier. We immediately reacted to this incident, and the carrier fired the driver,” said Orest Oleskiv, head of the LMR transport department.
The head of the city transport department emphasizes that this incident should not devalue the work of all drivers.
“I am convinced that now every conscious person in his place is working for victory. For example, from the first days of the full-scale war, the drivers of the communal ATP-1 worked in an intensified mode and transported forcibly displaced Ukrainians to shelters and to the border. Our buses made 1,975 flights to transport Ukrainians fleeing the war to the border. In total, about 165,000 people were transported. On peak days, 70 buses were used for transportation.
More than 500 buses were provided for the transportation of displaced persons to the points of temporary stay, and about 70,000 people were transported.
At the beginning of the war, city buses in these directions ran around the clock.
Our drivers – both on the front line and here in Lviv – are patriots who cheer for our independence,” said Orest Oleskiv.
