Switzerland has sent two more trams to Lviv

Today, on 11 November, two more donated low-floor trams left Switzerland for Lviv. The electric vehicles are expected to arrive in our city in a week. This was reported by Lvivelectrotrans.

Lviv received the first two Vevey trams in early October. These cars are currently being prepared for Ukrainian certification and operation on city lines. In particular, a passenger information system and a cashless payment system are being installed in the trams. Also, for the unimpeded operation of Swiss low-floor trams in Lviv, it is necessary to bring the platforms at some stops into compliance with the standards. As well as lowering or removing delineators on a section of one road. There is no need to re-equip the cars, as the track gauge in Lviv and Bern is the same.

It should be noted that Lviv expects to receive 2 more Bernese trams by the end of the year. The city should receive the remaining 5 cars next year.

The Bern Trams for Lviv project is being implemented with the support of the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO). In addition to the transfer of 11 trams, the project also includes the transfer of spare parts and related tools, training of technical staff, and a comprehensive analysis of Lviv’s tram infrastructure.

Next year, Lviv will receive free trams from another Swiss city, Basel. The local transport company will transfer 23-25 used large Schindler Be trams with a low-floor section to Lviv. And another 10 smaller cars will be donated as spare parts. We would like to add that this year Lviv has received free of charge

It is worth noting that the city has recently significantly renewed its electric transport rolling stock. Thus, in 2021-2024, with loans from the European Investment Bank under the Urban Public Transport of Ukraine project Lviv purchased 10 modern low-floor Electron trams.
