Oleh Tsizdin is a specialist in supporting veterans and demobilised persons in the Slavska AH.
On the Day of the Social Worker, we celebrate the importance of professionals who work every day to support those who need help and attention. One of these professionals is a veteran who, after completing his service, chose another equally important front – supporting veterans and their families.
Oleh Tsizdin is a former serviceman who now works in the Slavske territorial community, helping with legal, psychological and social issues.
His journey as a volunteer began in 2014 with the Lviv Special Forces Battalion, and later with the 24th King Danylo Mechanised Brigade, where he was a senior mortar gunner. After the full-scale invasion in 2022, he rejoined the 80th Air Assault Brigade, where he commanded an assault group. During his seven years of service, he was wounded seven times, which later forced him to resign. He was awarded numerous medals and badges. Today, he continues his mission, working for his fellow soldiers.
“If I can’t be on the front line, I’ll be in the rear fighting for my own,” he decided after completing his service and embarked on the path of social work, which became his way of helping and supporting.
He is a specialist who has not only obtained the necessary certifications, but has also taken courses to provide quality care.
His work makes life easier for both veterans and their families, providing them with support and assistance in difficult situations. In particular, the veteran provides support with paperwork, benefits, pensions, and organises the burial of fallen heroes from the beginning of the process to its completion, personally taking responsibility for all stages. For children of fallen soldiers and veterans, he organises excursions to Truskavets and Lviv, as well as to tourist bases.
His very first initiative in office was the creation of the Alley of Memory of Heroes who have defended Ukraine since 2014.
Together with the community, he engages in auctions and projects; recently, the community joined the collection for “Birds of Victory”, and he has personally organised trips to the East on several occasions.
Learn more about how veterans and their families receive proper support thanks to Oleh, and how the community is an example of unity and commitment in the video:
“I want us to be an example of how to adapt veterans to civilian life. I want them to know about their opportunities and feel supported, just like their families,” is Oleg Tsizdin’s goal.
