A concert was held in the Lviv Philharmonic on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the founding of the Academic Symphony Orchestra

Today, September 27, a concert was held on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of the founding of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic in the premises of the Lviv National Philharmonic named after Myroslav Skoryk.

Musical works were performed by the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic named after Myroslav Skoryk conducted by Teodor Kuhary.

For the first time in many decades, an orchestral composition by Stanislav Lyudkevich – “Ukrainian Capriccio” was performed on the Philharmonic stage, which premiered in the first concert season of the Lviv Philharmonic.

During the musical evening, Dmytro Tkachenko performed a violin concerto with orchestra No. 2 by the outstanding contemporary Yevhen Stankovich. The performance of this piece by Yevhen Stankovych became an important and memorable moment of the event, because in September 2022 one of the leading Ukrainian composers celebrates his 80th birthday.

Maksym Kozytskyi, head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, gave a welcome speech at the beginning of the concert.

“I am extremely grateful to you for 120 years of tireless work, rich history and outstanding creative achievements. Your music touches the strings of human hearts and ignites in them a thirst for the eternal – for the art of notes and melodies. I want to wish the team that you carry the sound of Ukrainian culture in your work and that the whole world knows what our beautiful, brave and suffering Ukraine sounds like, a country that will definitely win. I thank you for your work and congratulate you on such an important anniversary,” said the head of Lviv Oblast.

Afterwards, Maksym Kozytskyi thanked the team of the Academic Symphony Orchestra of the Lviv National Philharmonic named after Myroslav Skoryk for their high skill and significant contribution to the development of national musical art.

The concert evening ended with Antonin Dvořák’s ninth symphony, which is still known by its subtitle “From the New World”. Creating this piece at the end of the 19th century, the Czech composer recorded in the score his impressions of the American continent, its music and folklore. At that time, America was a new, unexplored world for Europeans, which aroused considerable interest and admiration. Now Ukraine and its people, who courageously oppose Russia, protecting and defending the most important thing – Independence, have become that New World for everyone.
