A cultural and social urban camp for Lviv residents and immigrants is being created in Lviv: what will it be like?

Today, a presentation of the concept of a new cultural and social urban camp for internally displaced persons took place in Lviv. A memorandum of cooperation was also signed on the spot between Street Culture & Urban Reform and the Lviv City Council, which together will implement this project.

The urban camp will be opened in the former cultural center. The project is implemented in partnership with Street Culture & Urban Reform and the network of youth spaces CREATE! with the support of the Danish public organization of street cultures GAME.

“Today is a very important day, because this cluttered room is starting to come alive. This building has been idle for many years and thanks to the synergy of cool people, this space is being restored and will work for people. It is necessary to make a lot of efforts, but soon you will not recognize this object,” said Andriy Moskalenko, the first deputy mayor of Lviv.

“This is a very cool story during the war, which begins with the signing of this memorandum. Thank you to all our partners and our team for their involvement in this project,” added George Matyuhin, co-founder of Street Culture NGO and urban camp.

This location will house a new modern shelter, which will be a home for families with children who lost everything due to the war, and an event space for holding events with the participation of immigrants and Lviv residents, which will help the faster involvement of newcomers in local life and the formation of a new local community

“Even before the war, we received this premises and began to develop our concept of what should be here. But since February 24, these plans have changed. At that time, our current partners, the public organization Street Culture & Urban Reform, moved to Lviv. We realized that we are now on the same wavelength with them in terms of youth development, so we are now taking on the renovation of this building together. Taking into account the challenges of the time, we will first of all arrange a place for living and social integration of 100 displaced persons. Lviv residents will also be able to come here, as it will be an open space for various activities,” said Oleg Malets, head of the TVORA! network of youth spaces.
