Opening of the Photo Exhibition «Melody of Resilience» in Lviv
A photo exhibition dedicated to Mykhailo Verbytsky, the author of the State Anthem of Ukraine’s melody, has opened in Lviv. The exhibition «Melody of Resilience» is taking place at the Lviv Palace of Arts.
Exhibition and Materials
This is the third photo exhibition by Yosyp Marukhnyak from the «Great Anniversaries» series dedicated to Mykhailo Verbytsky, and the artist’s thirty-eighth personal photo exhibition. The exhibition features photographs of churches, reproductions of portraits, archival materials, manuscripts of notes, records in a church book, and church items used by Verbytsky.
Deputy Head of the Historical and Cultural Heritage and Tourism Commission of the Lviv Regional Council, Solomiya Rybotytska, attended the opening of the exhibition.
Historical Places Associated with Verbytsky
The material for the exhibition was collected during travels to memorable places associated with Mykhailo Verbytsky. These include former Ukrainian settlements on the banks of the San River in modern-day Poland, particularly the birthplace in Yavirnyk Ruskyi, the parish of his father-priest in the village of Uluch, places in Przemysl, the village of Mlyny, as well as locations in the Lviv region: Lviv, Zavadiv, Zaluze, Strilky.
«I tried to show the spirit of the era through images of rarities: old church books, censers, crosses, temples, archival materials. These are also photographs of contemporaries singing the anthem melody composed by Verbytsky. Thus, I connect the past with the present. It’s about statehood, the land, and the nation. For Ukrainians, Mykhailo Verbytsky is a unifying figure, an outstanding composer, and the creator of our anthem», said Yosyp Marukhnyak.
