The prize winner received 200,000 hryvnias and a gold medal worth 76,000 hryvnias.
The international award was established in 2015. It is awarded for scientific discoveries, achievements and merits of scientists of the world in the field of Ukrainian studies and social and humanitarian sciences. Historians, linguists, literary scholars, lawyers, philologists and representatives of other sciences compete for the award.
Today, August 27, on the anniversary of the writer’s birthday, the Ivan Franko People’s House in Drohobych honored the laureate of the award. He became Mykola Legkyi, doctor of philological sciences, head of the department of French studies, senior researcher at the Ivan Franko Institute of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine with the book “Ivan Franko’s Prose: Poetics, Aesthetics, Reception in Criticism.”

The prize winner received 200 thousand hryvnias and a gold medal worth 76 thousand hryvnias. The premium fund is formed at the expense of charitable contributions.
“Franko taught us not only to be Europeans, to feel like Ukrainians, regardless of the geography of residence, but also to win. A line from the work of Zakhar Berkut immediately comes to mind: “What did we win? Or only our weapons? No. Is it just our trick? No. We won with our social order, our agreement and friendship…” Franko gives many recipes for how we can win in modern war, so we need to listen to his words. I sincerely thank you for the important award for your work, and I wish my successor to win in peacetime,” said Mykola Legky.
This year, the Award committee received 15 papers submitted by scientists from Ukraine and Japan. The expert council, which included 32 scientists from Austria, Italy, Poland, Slovakia, Ukraine and the Czech Republic, determined the nominees of the Award.
Academic institutions, higher educational institutions of Ukraine and other countries apply for the Prize for the work of scientists. One person can be a laureate of the Prize only once. The laureate is chosen by an international jury.

We thank the artist for all the creative achievements that our country has today, we promise to multiply them for future generations. At the regional level, we take care of creating new prizes, competitions, and developing the creative potential of our youth. Today, we should also remember our defenders, who enable us to honor the memory of the Great Stonemason in a dignified way”, – emphasized the deputy head of the Lviv OVA, Ivan Sobko.
Over 100 scientists and more than 10 author groups from Ukraine, Austria, Italy, Canada, Great Britain, Germany, the USA, Finland, Spain, Georgia, Israel, Poland and Serbia applied for the prize during its 8 years of existence.
The first laureate of the Prize in 2016 was the Supreme Archbishop of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church His Beatitude Lubomyr Huzar for his doctoral work devoted to the study of the ecumenical activity of Metropolitan Andriy Sheptytskyi.
