Former state customs inspector is sentenced to 6 years in prison with confiscation of property for taking bribe for unimpeded border crossing
Following a public prosecution by prosecutors of the Lviv Regional Prosecutor’s Office, a state inspector of the Rava-Ruska customs post of the Lviv Customs was found guilty of forgery and receiving an unlawful benefit committed repeatedly (Part 1 of Article 366, Part 3 of Article 368 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
She was sentenced to 6 years in prison with confiscation of property. She was also deprived of the right to hold positions related to the performance of organisational, administrative and economic functions for a period of 3 years.
Prosecutors proved in court that in January, the convict received a bribe from a citizen to ensure the unimpeded movement of goods across the customs border through the Green Corridor lane. She also failed to draw up a protocol on the violation of customs rules and entered knowingly false information in this regard into the Inspector database.
The woman was documented to have repeatedly received illegal benefits totalling UAH 8,000.
The accused has now been fired from the customs office.
The pre-trial investigation was carried out by investigators of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1 of the Main Department of the National Police in Lviv region, with the assistance of the Department of Departmental Security and Control of the Lviv Customs. Operational support was provided by the Strategic Investigations Department in Lviv region of the National Police.
