Lviv to Appeal to Government for Regulation of Electric Scooter Rules

Road safety in Lviv requires urgent solutions, as the lack of national standards for electric scooters leads to dangerous incidents. The Lviv City Council is preparing an appeal to the Cabinet of Ministers regarding the implementation of clear rules for electric scooters, monowheels, and electric bicycles.

The city’s mayor, Andriy Sadovyi, emphasised during a council session the need to discuss this situation at the national level. He proposed organising a roundtable in Lviv with representatives from the government, police, rental operators, and the public.

The meeting aims to discuss control mechanisms and accountability for unscrupulous users of electric transport, as their unpredictable movement creates risks for other road users.

Lviv is already actively working in this area with major operators, such as Bolt and E-WINGS, introducing technical restrictions for safe usage. However, as highlighted by the Department of Urban Mobility, a unified national standard can ensure safe movement in all Ukrainian cities.

Additionally, local restrictions have been introduced in Lviv: a ban on parking in pedestrian zones in the city centre, speed limits of up to 15 km/h in the centre, and designated parking and loading zones for scooters.
