Two Second World War munitions discovered in Lviv region

In the village of Obroshyne and the town of Pustomyty in Lviv district, explosive remnants from the Second World War were discovered on the same day. This was reported by the Main Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Lviv region.

On 22 June at 09:35, rescuers received a report that a 76 mm artillery shell from the Second World War had been found in a roadside ditch in the village of Obroshyne.

Later that day, at 14:08, another report came in: a mortar shell from the Second World War had been discovered in the town of Pustomyty, Lviv district.

Community rescue officers were dispatched to both locations, where they inspected the area and submitted requests for the disposal of the munitions to specialists from the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit of the Lviv Mobile Rapid Response Rescue Centre of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine. The EOD specialists removed the dangerous items and destroyed them in accordance with established procedure.

Rescuers remind the public of the need to follow safety rules when discovering suspicious objects:

  • do not touch any items you find;
  • do not attempt to move, dismantle or neutralise them yourself;
  • do not throw such items into a fire, as this is life-threatening;
  • if you discover an explosive item, immediately call the rescuers on 101 or the police on 102.
